Introduction

Professor Zhang Sheng obtained his Doctorate degree from Beijing Institute of Technology in 1996. He had worked at the University of Bolton in England from 1998 to 2006. He is the director of the Fire Safety Materials Research Center and chair of the Polymer Engineering Department at Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

His research endeavors encompass a wide range of areas, including the relationship between polymer structure and properties, the development of flame retardant polymer materials, and the innovative modification and functionalization of nanocomposites. Additionally, his work extends to flame retardant textiles, thermal behavior, degradation, and combustion mechanisms of polymers, as well as recyclable polymer materials and new energy materials with enhanced safety.

Prof. Zhang's contributions to academia are underscored by his extensive publication record, with over 300 articles in referred journals. Furthermore, his dedication to mentorship is evident in the success of his students, with more than 100 individuals earning MSc degrees and over 40 attaining PhD degrees under his guidance.

He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He also holds influential positions such as Deputy Director and Secretary General of the Flame Retardant Materials and Application Committee of China Plastics Association, Deputy Chairman of the Fire Prevention Committee of Structures and Building Materials of China Architectural Society, and membership in various professional committees focused on fire safety and polymer materials.
